Cranio-Sacral Reflexology integrates the principles of Reflexology, Cranial Osteopathy and Cranio-Sacral Therapy.
It is a uniquely inspired approach to working the zones and reflex areas of the feet and was developed by Dr. Martine Faure Alderson , international lecturer and author. Cranio-Sacral Reflexology is the result of Martine’s research and observation during her 40 years of practice as Osteopath, Acupuncturist, Reflexologist and Cranio-sacral Therapist.
Unlike classical reflexology, which focuses on the general systems of the body and its parts, the focus and intent of Cranio-Sacral Reflexology is to enhance the flow of the cerebrospinal fluid in the body. This is achieved through working the reflex areas on the foot and hand related to the craniosacral system. The cranio-sacral system is complex and consists of:
· The cerebrospinal fluid,
· The membranes which surround and protect the brain and spinal cord,
· The bones and sutures of the skull,
· The spinal vertebrae and
· The twelve pairs of cranial nerves.
Cranio-Sacral Reflexology is very fluid, and works in a continual spiral motion on the feet of the receiver. This in itself reflects the constant motion of the cells, molecules, nerve synapses and fluids in the body. A series of CSR sessions has the effect of ‘unwinding tissue’, awakening cell memory, balancing the autonomic nervous system and the flow of the cerebrospinal fluid.
Cranio-Sacral Reflexology can be used to good effect in many cases. Both the brain and spinal column can be treated through the reflex points of the feet and hands. It can therefore be considered a treatment of choice for conditions arising from physical or emotional trauma or neurological imbalances.
Mary Scully principal therapist at Innerenergies, has been working as a Reflexologist for ten years and has trained with Dr Martine Faure-Alderson who is a pioneer in the development of this method.
